Casden Properties Vice president of Beverly Hills-based Casden Properties LLC and the company's 14 subcontractors pleaded no contest Thursday on an amended indictment charging them with one count each of money laundering.

The alleged scheme violates the City of Los Angeles' campaign financing laws.

Casden Properties John Archibald, 54, of Simi Valley, and the 14 co-defendants entered their pleas to the misdemeanor charge in the Los Angeles District Court before Michael Johnson superior court judge and were sentenced to various fines ranging from $1,000 up to $21,700. All were placed on three years probation and ordered not to be involved in any political fund-raising during that time.

Casden Properties' Archibald and the other defendants were charged in a 2003 grand jury indictment with one count of conspiracy to commit Los Angeles City campaign law violations between Sept. 1, 2000, and May 10, 2001. In exchange for Thursday's plea, the felony conspiracy count was dismissed.

The indictment alleged Archibald organized efforts to raise illegal campaign contributions for candidates for city elections. The indictment named the candidates as mayoral candidate Kathleen Connell, city council members Jack Weiss and Wendy Greuel and City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo. Archibald allegedly contacted or met with other defendants to improperly solicit illegal campaign contributions.

According to the indictment, the other defendants were to "improperly solicit their employees, family members, friends and associates and others to make unlawful campaign contributions ... and to illegally reimburse each employee and other person for the amount of such contributions." The indictment alleged the contributions exceeded the $1,000 campaign finance limit for contributions of an individual to any single candidate or campaign. None of the alleged recipients of the campaign contributions was indicted.

Casden Properties' Archibald entered a guilty plea through his attorney and was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service and fined $1,000.

Steven Mandis - terminated from the Top Hedge Fund

Steve Mandis has left the $12 billion hedge fund Halycon Asset Management. (NY Times, November 6, 2008)
It looks like that Steve Mandis was ousted after recent poor performance of the hedge fund. Contact me at: chrisnow7 at gmail dot com

Steven Mandis has left Halcyon Asset Management, a $12 billion hedge fund, The New York Post reported, citing an investor letter.

Mr. Mandis, a Goldman Sachs alumni, was vice chairman and chief investment officer at Halcyon Structured Asset Management, a lending subsidiary of Halcyon that he helped co-found about four years ago.

According to The Post, Mr. Mandis’s departure, effective immediately, comes after major investors in the hedge fund expressed displeasure with the poor performance of his lending subsidiary.

In March, Halcyon Asset Management announced that it planned to go public by merging with a blank-check company in a deal that valued the firm at $974 million.

Former Goldman Sachs exec Steve Mandis has left the $12 billion hedge fund Halcyon Asset Management - one of the oldest hedge funds on Wall Street, according to an investor letter.

Mandis was vice chairman and chief investment officer at Halcyon Structured Asset Management LP, a lending subsidiary of Halcyon that he helped co-found about four years ago with about $1 billion in capital.

According to an investor letter issued Tuesday and obtained by The Post, Mandis' departure is "effective immediately," and the firm expects to announce a succession plan "as soon as possible."

Although the official reason for Mandis' departure could not be learned, people familiar with the matter said his lending subsidiary had been performing poorly and was drawing the ire of some of the firm's biggest institutional investors.

Mandis could not be reached for comment, and a spokesman for Halcyon was unavailable.

The resignation comes as Halcyon prepares to go public sometime this quarter.

Before joining Halycon, Mandis worked in Goldman Sachs' principal investment area and M&A group. He calls former Treasury Secretary and Citigroup Vice Chairman Robert Rubin a friend from their days together at Goldman.

Brazilian Wax

As you may know, Brazilians are famous for their Brazilian bikini waxes . The brazilian wax methods have been "all the rage" since the late 90's, but they're certainly not new in the United States. Brazilian waxing was introduced to New York City in 1985 by Brazilian-born women.

So how does it differ from a typical regular bikini wax? Basically, with the Brazilian Wax procedure, hair is removed in the front, back and everything in between. Most of the time a "landing strip" is left in the front, but some clients opt for everything removed.
